A Puposeful Day

Silently a camera (of my mind) zooms into the woods,

dark but revealing exquisite detail with each expansion of the picture,

lights, colors and features more perfectly in focus than any vision.

Until a light appears in a tree in the center, old yet vibrant;

awakening a new day.

Isaiah

“So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it”.

In Need

What do I see in that face?

the one who has just hurt me, deliberately.

A cause for response or retribution …

or a soul lost, in need of a friend or some guidance?

And my response is …

Gospel of Matthew

‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’

Resistance

Walking in the marketplace, I notice those around me.

What of their lives, triumphs, failures, sadness, joy.

My life is selfish, wanting my own consolations and rewards,

but of others around me. Do I notice them at all?

Am I thick with the resistance of noticing?

So self-centered, parading around like a self-reflecting mirror,

Only interested in others good perceptions of me

and the image I project.

The one I want to see.

Genesis

“The LORD God formed man out of the clay of the ground
and blew into his nostrils the breath of life,
and so man became a living being.”

Saving up my Sweetness

Saving sweetness for those we know but a little,

is a falsehood and fake smile which draws us from peace and love?

Remember the internal knots your make each time it happens,

how they quickly become a tangle no-one can undo.

Save freewill surrender to God.

Isiah

“If you remove from your midst oppression, false accusation and malicious speech; If you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted; Then light shall rise for you in the darkness, and the gloom shall become for you like midday;”

Patience: Lent Day 3

Patience needs to be learned,
Like landing a plane,
slowing down from one speed to another’s.
Changing my mode from air to land;
bringing a mind into view
before comes the response.

This time I will try and slow down
and understand before flying by the person and
hurling a comment or another
for disturbing my peace.

Let me retain my peace in one hand
and hold this new thing … patience
in the other.
In joyful union.

Taking the Biscuit

Just decided to stay off the cookies for Lent,

congratulations; then suddenly

a whole range of cookies appear as a gift from someone I can never refuse

coconut, chocolate, mints, all made by a charity.

Do I take the biscuit? Lent is already a challenge.

Making the Nest

Fluttering from one location to another

the male brings twigs and branches from all over.

Gradually forming a nest

and a domestic church.

Peter 1

“It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you”

On My Cheek

Lying closely on my shoulder the newborn gently moves a wobbly but determined head
towards my cheek,

touching lightly at first,

then coming to rest on mine.

Warmth flows as soft baby fur touches a face,

not prickly but wishes it had just shaved;

and experience even more closeness in the moment.

Generations are connected by a simple act,

no need for noise or talk,

a feeling beyond words

as the love of parents, children and a new generation is borne

and transmitted.

Message and two messengers now bound forever in unconditional love.

A Mother’s Love is Endless

As soon as the seed is planted,
the change began.
Not some small modification,
or a born again interruptive flash,
but an ontological alteration.
A change of the soul.

An understanding so deep,
of love, of service, of God.
Instinctive yet unfathomable
A love with purpose, unchangeable, infinite.

Love held in the arms of my child, unrealizable yet present.
