The Great Reflection

Wooden floorboards track shoe sizes, angst and growth,

Pine sits noisily and anonymously moves students dust, nature’s rain and snow,

around the lab, persistently supporting their progress, in this place of learning

… my refuge of years.

Now a perfect nest surrounds and applauds a life … family.

My giant science experiment, disproving classroom words,

“Matter cannot be created or destroyed”

Technically I understand, reason drives all,

… save love and the need to do good.

So let’s dissect one last frog, one more experiment, measure one more isotope,

and see what registers on the Geiger counter of my humanity.

Reflecting on a life of much love, children, the desire to help others.

Was it for me or them, both perhaps?

… This knowledge is perhaps inside to discover.

The Big O

The ultimate connection with creation.

Outpouring love energized,

No words successfully describe,

a feeling before or after.

All channels open and forgotten

the unique moment for body and soul,

now electrified and infused;

overwhelmed by physical instinct and spiritual love,

drenched in sweat, blessings and grace.

I AM made.

Infused with intention of love and commitment,

an image transforms the instant of love …

Into me.

A new being, confirming God’s eternal love,

with each breadth taken.

Let me draw in and fill my heart with the oxygen of His love.

The Crumbling Turnstile

Sitting on coastal fields, atop chalk-lined cliffs,

a stone church remains, the crumbling turnstile of lives lived and past.

Entered together on a bright sunny day, devoid of teenage cares,

light beaming the only colors inside,

pouring, unobstructed through stained glass windows of yesteryear Saints.

All else is monochrome, like a sepia drawing,

chalk-colored walls replaced stations and images.

No sanctuary lamp, statues, even Christ was missing,

replaced by a cross, removed as if buried for all time,

leaving just His symbol, the suffering detached.

Silence resounded, amplified by whiteness now decisive as a Welsh chapel on Sunday,

but without the sound of voices raised in praise.

The old organ pipes silently past events, happiness, marriages, baptisms in worship …

Eucharist removed, apparently forever,

adds to an ambiance full of emptiness and loneliness; yet electric with hope.

Unfilled now with patrons declining in years,

visiting for Christmas and Easter, through a broken but open door,

hands shaking in fellowship,

while heads shake invisibly, silently … searching for meaning.

Meanwhile the Holy Spirit remains … Waiting patiently.

Next

Running to the next meeting,

picking up the kids,

car needs servicing,

dog wants grooming,

could do with a coffee,

when is the baby due?

Client is unhappy, need to call,

missed breakfast, darn it,

forgot to call dad,

called dad, he is out,

call later.

Next?

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Seasons continue on their way,

Unnoticing time, some man-made measurement.

Parties, resolutions, new habits, and news of change fill the air,

spilling words replete with sincerity and good intentions.

Meanwhile, hidden in smaller corners,

timeless resolutions sit quietly,

inhaling love and exhaling kindness.

Breathing life into New Year air.
